What is the Universe?
The Universe, also called the Plane of Mortals or the Physical World, is the smallest plane in existence. It’s artistically depicted as standing in between the cursed Void and the transcendent Overworld, but this is not so. Those two planes are ontologically higher than the Physical World.
Within the Universe are realms with no end. According to a highly elaborate observation done by the Knowledge Council, the amount of observable dimensions within the World (the main realm within the Universe), and consequently all other realms, are equal to the mathematical continuum of all real numbers.
What is the Earth? What about the other planets?
Earth in its original, ancient meaning just meant ‘land’ as in the continents. In the Middle & Modern Eras, however, the term means the entire realm, containing its own continents, seas, and outer space with no end. There are also other finite-sized planets within this realm’s outer space.
Another study conducted by the Society’s Knowledge Council reveals that only 16 other realms have been observed in the entire history of the Knighthood, almost all were inhabitable for the average mortal. Dragons will sometimes reside inside of these realms as well.
What exactly is the Expanse?
The term ‘Expanse’ refers to the limitless barriers of the Universe. Formed by the Over King himself in times past, this is something no mortal, not even the Knights, can fully comprehend.
What is known is that there are three distinct Quadrants in the Expanse: the Lesser, the Greater, and the Greatest. Within each Quadrant lies an inconceivable number of layers, as even the Lesser Quadrant is ontologically superior to all things which it encompasses, with the next two being far beyond even its own reach. This is why the Expanse cannot be fully observed, yet the contents of the Universe can. Much of this was discovered by Knowledge Council member Raelynn Henderson in 2015. Such protections King Sotiras has provided against the vile Princes of the Void!
How far does it all go? What is the limit of existence itself? Only he knows.
Beyond
Beyond this unthinkable ontological ocean of no end are two planes – one that, like its captives, exists and yet does not, and the other would cause one inhabiting it to look at this Universe and the Void as a novel, with someone’s hand flipping through the already-written pages.
